TELL ME MORE

Ah oui, the pinnacle of poise, glamour and fun. This classic belongs on the silver screen and can be spotted in Casablanca (arguably the best cocktail movie of all time). AKA the ‘Soixante Quinze’ in its mother tongue, the drink was allegedly created in Harry’s New York Bar, war-time Paris, 1915. It's said to be named after a 75mm field gun for its powerful kick. Though its taste of fame came with the roaring twenties when it gained a reputation fizzing with revelry rather than rifles.

Our MOTH: French 75 is tantalisingly lemony and full of effervescence. We kept it elegant and light, of course (criminal, otherwise). It’s also gorgeously balanced with Cornish gin from our friends at Tarquin’s.Though we’ve given it a MOTH twist and brought it into this century with it being pink gin. Just enough to see la vie en rose. So welcome it to the party fashionably late, as it should be.

ZESTY, DANCY AND A LITTLE BIT FANCY. WEARS A SEQUN BERET. PAIRS WITH A PLATTER. CAN KEEP A SECRET

HOW TO SERVE

You’ve got options here – though sipping in style is a must. Cold and from the can works for us. Drinking it and doing the can-can is even better. Poured over ice in a highball glass definitely gives some charisma to the situation, sure. But fully going for it with an icy flute and curly lemon twist? That’s some serious showbiz, baby.

When it comes to food pairings, MOTH: French 75 is an experienced mingler, showing off to suit most palettes. Obviously it loves to push the boat out with oysters – both of their umami flavours combine deliciously for those fancier moments. You might be surprised about its affinity to flatter fried chicken, though. Its bright acidity adds to the bite of deep-fried tender white meats. Another friend includes the classic Macaroni Cheese. And if you can get some truffle oil involved in that crumbly goodness then it’s top marks. After canapes? Then seafood suits swimmingly. And if you want a sophisticated snack for a party, then some posh popcorn is just perfect.

WHY WE LOVE IT

We love the MOTH: French 75 for laughing with mates until your belly hurts. For finding confetti in your hair the next day. For voguing, rigamaroling and toasting santé to life’s twists and turns. It’s the most fabulous, celebratory MOTH in many ways but its joie de vivre suits all sorts of scenarios. Like a simple Saturday night with a takeaway. With summertime strawberries and a spot of tennis on the telly. Or for enjoying during a pedicure with your best pal.

Oh and whatever you’re planning to invite the MOTH: French 75 to – be it a rendez-vous or full on soirée – you can heighten your senses with sounds to the taste, because we’ve made you a French 75: Mix on Spotify. Find it and heart it via the link below. Then dance like you’re back in Studio 54.
