ASK FOR CLIVE:
MAKING SPACE FOR EVERYONE
A good night out should be exactly that. Meeting friends, getting your groove on, having a drink. Being yourself without having to think twice about whether you belong.
That simple idea sits at the heart of Ask For Clive, an initiative working across the UK to make hospitality and nightlife spaces safer, more welcoming and more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community.
Something we think is well worth raising a glass to.
WHAT IS ASK FOR CLIVE?
Ask For Clive is a proactive campaign focused on LGBTQ+ inclusion in the hospitality and nightlife industries. Its mission is straightforward: work with venues and organisations to create welcoming spaces and take a zero-tolerance approach to LGBTQ+ discrimination and hate.
The campaign was founded in 2019 in response to increasing homophobic and transphobic incidents across the UK. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide network spanning pubs, clubs, cafés, restaurants, theatres, festivals, universities and other places where people come together.
The familiar Ask For Clive sticker is a visible sign that a venue has committed to the campaign. But the work goes beyond what's displayed on the door. Ask For Clive provides resources and training to help venue teams recognise vulnerability, respond to concerns and challenge harmful behaviour.
FROM A STICKER TO ACTION
A sticker might be small. The statement behind it isn't.
Ask For Clive seeks to make inclusion tangible, something people actually experience when they walk through the door. Its current Everyone Is Welcome training gives hospitality teams practical tools for dealing with real-world situations, from recognising when someone feels unsafe to responding appropriately and using bystander intervention techniques.
That matters because creating an inclusive venue isn't just about what happens on Pride weekend. It's about the culture of a space every day of the year.
The campaign's work also extends into Pub Pride, which began in 2021 as a way for venues to celebrate Pride with their local LGBTQ+ communities. In 2026, the initiative expanded beyond pubs to include clubs, cafés, shops, parks and festivals, bringing the idea of inclusion to more of the places where people gather.
WHY INCLUSIVE SPACES MATTER
Hospitality should be about drawing people together. Being kind and generous – a good host, if you will. A table filled with friends. Music spilling out onto the street. A crowded bar after work. A cocktail shared between people who haven't seen each other in months.
Things everyone should feel safe experiencing.
That's why visible commitments to inclusion matter. They help make it clear that discrimination isn't part of the deal, and that people can expect to be treated with dignity and respect.
Ask For Clive's work has received recognition from outlets including BBC Breakfast and ITV News, while its network has grown to thousands of supporters across the UK.
MOTH × ASK FOR CLIVE
At MOTH, we believe drinks are better when we draw together. Friends, strangers, communities – the people who make a night worth remembering.
That's why we're proud to support the work of Ask For Clive and its commitment to making hospitality spaces more welcoming for LGBTQ+ people.
The best nights aren't about who gets to be there. They're about everyone having a reason to stay.
And when the doors are open, the drinks are cold and everyone knows they're welcome? Well, that's something worth celebrating.
