Sunshine? Welcome – open-armed. Warm cocktails? Absolutely not. No matter what you’re up to this summer, lukewarm cocktails should be a distant nightmare. Here’s our guide for keeping your drinks outside. Without battling melting ice.

HOW TO KEEP THOSE COCKTAILS COLD
Keeping Cans Cold Without a Fridge
No fridge? No problem. Start smart.
-
Pre-chill your drinks overnight: The colder they start, the longer they stay that way.
-
Wrap in a wet tea towel: Then place in the shade – evaporation does the cooling for you.
-
Bury them in a tub of cold water: Maybe even a paddling pool, for bigger crowds?
-
Use a vacuum-insulated bag or wine sleeve: Made for bottles, fits cans too.
Top tip: Keep them out of direct sun, always. Even sunshine-loving MOTH: Mojito needs a break from all that sunbathing.
Quick Fixes: Ice & Frozen Fruit
You know the classic saying: when ice melts, make it work for you. We might’ve made that up. But our point stands.
-
Fill a big bowl or bucket with ice and salt. The salt lowers the freezing point of water – that’ll chill your drinks even faster.
-
Use frozen fruit as a cooling garnish: pineapples for MOTH: Piña Colada. Lime for MOTH: Margarita. Looks good, keeps your drink cold doing it. And zero watering down.
-
Freeze water bottles and use them as ice packs. Helps you stay hydrated, too.
-
We also love freezing garnishes in ice. When the ice melts – your drink gets a little flavour boost. Great for experimenting with flavours. Spiced Paloma, anyone?
Planning a party? Stash plenty (and plenty) of ice in a cooler and line the top with foil – that’ll slow down the melt.
Creative Cocktail Cooling Methods
In a pinch? Sometimes you’ve gotta think outside of the coolbox.
-
DIY cooler: Line a plant pot, basket or sink with foil. Pack with ice. Et voilà.
-
Cool towel wrap: Wrap cans in damp cloths, freeze, then carry them in a cooler.
Festival or beach day? Chill your MOTH cans the night before. Then take them with you in our Crossbody Cooler Bag. That’ll keep them at perfect sipping temp for longer. Hours – to be exact.
