Look who just touched down from Italy and came straight to the party: It’s the sparkly, bright and bold MOTH: Aperitivo Spritz. Always telling stories of winter sun on the slopes. Or whispering of a time in Venice when that magic thing happened.
Often described as an Italian sunset in a glass, our spritz is the same but in a can (which can be put in a glass, of course). It came to be in Austria around 1900. Apparently soldiers from the Habsburg Empire loved softening strong Northern Italian wine with sparkling water. The verb for this action was to ‘spritzen’ and so the name ‘spritz’ came to be. The folks of Northern Italy must have got on board as by the 1950s, it was all the rage to enjoy these chic concoctions in the romantic region of Veneto.
Fizzing sweetly with a bitter orange hit, our MOTH: Aperitivo Spritz is balanced breeziness. It promises a refreshing first sip – ah, bliss. And keeps it classic with an essence of herbs in homage to its roots. But it does love a flirt with the beautiful botanicals of Tarquin’s Cornish Gin (ever the charmer).
