OUR DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS MARGARITA WITH MALDON SALT & DR STING'S

OCT 29, 2022

A COLLABORATION FOR CELEBRATION

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, bursts with colour and soul. Dating back to ancient times of Mesoamerica’s Aztec, Maya and Toltec cultures, it’s a celebration of life and death. Of lost loved ones and the memories they paint. With it comes sugared calaveras (skulls) and calacas (skeletons). Candlelight ritual. Sounds of folk music, noise and laughter. Smells of amber marigold flowers and hot, sweet treats. Dancing in the streets. A reunion of the living and spirit worlds.

Togetherness, storytelling and celebration are three things we at MOTH hold dear. Which is why we’ve been inspired to team up with two good friends, Dr Sting’s and Maldon Salt, to create a special MOTH: Margarita. One that dances around the sweet chilli rim of Dr Sting’s Hot Honey. One that’s showered in Maldon’s iconic Sea Salt Flakes. And one that percolates with the complex and joyful flavours of the award-winning Enemigo Tequila. We think it nods perfectly to the beautiful celebration of Día de los Muertos. If you’d like to join us in creating this, there’s 20 limited edition bundles with all the bits you need, up for grabs below.

MEET OUR MATES

Dr Sting’s Small Batch Hot Honey is made in South East London. Like us, they’re into their quality ingredients. In one squeezy bottle you can expect 100% blossom honey, organic chillies and apple cider vinegar. Proper honey with a sting. Brewed, filtered and filled by fellow local Londoners. Tastes especially divine drizzled on pizza (we can vouch for that). And you’ve probably heard of Maldon Salt? Harvested down the road in Maldon, Essex with the same artisan methods since 1882, their pyramid flakes are known across the globe for being fine, precise, fresh and clean. Just thinking of it laced with the honey and lime juice makes our mouths water.

SERVE AND SALUD!

If you fancy joining us, then here’s how to serve. First, make sure your glass is icy enough to write your name on it. Squeeze your Dr Sting’s to lightly cover your rim (usually the go to is lime juice but this version spices things up). Use a spoon to leave less room for mess. Now, the trick is getting the salt right. The best way to do it is to sprinkle some Maldon flakes on a plate and dip the honied rim. Hold it up to the sky and take a pause. Admire it. Nice. Now you can add your MOTH: Margarita into the glass. If you want to go even hotter, add some Dr Sting to the can and shake. The next step is the most important one: share your special MOTH: Margarita with a mate. Because being in good company and sharing anecdotes of people past and present is the true spirit of Día de los Muertos.
